Balkan Academy of Forensic Sciences (BAFS)
What is BAFS?
The Balkan Academy of Forensic Sciences (BAFS) is an international scientific organization dedicated to the advancement of forensic sciences across the Balkan region and beyond. Since its founding, BAFS has served as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration between forensic medicine specialists, clinicians, legal professionals, researchers, and academics from across Europe and the wider international community.
The Academy addresses all scientific, educational, and professional matters pertaining to forensic sciences at an international level, with a commitment to promoting rigorous research, elevating professional standards, and fostering meaningful cooperation across disciplines and borders.
Foundation & History
BAFS was founded in Istanbul, Türkiye in 2003 by a distinguished group of international forensic science scholars who recognized the need for a dedicated regional platform to connect the forensic science communities of Balkan and neighboring countries.
From its very first meeting in Istanbul in 2003, BAFS has grown into a respected international institution with members, partners, and scientific collaborators spanning Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
Mission & Vision
Mission: To continuously improve and enhance the practice of forensic science through innovative teaching, research, and service — inspiring new generations of forensic scientists to search for truth through science, and to shape the future of the field through knowledge and innovation.
Vision: To promote education and research in the forensic sciences, to encourage scholarly inquiry, to improve professional practice, to elevate standards, and to advance the cause of forensic sciences at the regional and international level.
BAFS & the Malpractice 2026 Conference
The International Conference on Medical Malpractice – Obstetrics & Gynecology is a new initiative by BAFS, launching an independent thematic conference series that runs alongside the annual BAFS scientific meeting. While the annual BAFS meeting addresses the full spectrum of forensic sciences, this new series focuses each edition on a specific high-impact intersection of medicine, law, and forensic evaluation.
By organizing Malpractice 2026, BAFS extends its mission into one of the most clinically and legally consequential areas of modern healthcare, bringing its established network of international forensic, clinical, and legal expertise to bear on the complex challenge of medical malpractice.
The Malpractice conference series benefits from BAFS's two decades of experience in organizing international scientific events, its strong network of academic and institutional partners across Europe and beyond, and its deep-rooted commitment to evidence-based, multidisciplinary dialogue.
